Synopsis of the film Gangor (photo). An Indo-Italian project, shot in Purulia and Kolkata, Gangor is based on a poignant short story written by the noted Bengali novelist and social activist, Mahasweta Devi. Upin Puri, a photo journalist, is sent to Purulia to cover a story on the exploitation of the tribals (Adivasis) living there...

...There he comes across a woman called Gangor, an Adivasi woman, whom he considers to be an epitome of Indian beauty. P.S.: Full text of the Jury's citation regarding the film Gangor:

"A story which is rooted deeply in the rustic rual milieu is captured forcefully without exoticising it. This is a commendable achievement on film, as writer Mahasweta Devi's tribal Indian chronicles are politically complexed and thickly nuanced.
Though the film is structured in a linear manner, with its crisscrossing narratives, filmmaker leads the viewer to a dramatic culmination very skillfully.
Aptly lit-up scenes with participatory camera movements, an editing rhythm which breathes in an intimacy to the protagonist Gangor's life and struggle and minimalist use of music to underline certain passges - all these unveil the craftsmanship of filmmaker, Italo Spinelly."
