Synopsis.Chaozhou grandmother Ye Shurou had always led a quiet, uneventful life, enjoying her later years in peace. Her grandson, Xiaowei, burdened by debt, secretly traveled to Thailand in search of his rumored billionaire grandfather, Zheng Musheng. But what Xiaowei brought back was a revelation that shook the entire family: Grandfather had long passed away, and the person who had been exchanging affectionate letters with Grandma all these years was actually a

About director Lan Hongchun:

Lan Hongchun, a native of southern China’s Guangdong Province, has carved out a distinctive cinematic identity through his “Teochew Trilogy”—rooted in the culture of Teochew (the coastal region of eastern Guangdong, known for its tight-knit diaspora and distinct language), delivered entirely in the local dialect, cast largely with non-professional actors, and grounded in an unflinching realist style.

He first broke Teochew-languagebox-office records with Proud of Me, followed by Back to Love, which earned the Guangdong Provincial Top Honor for Literature and Art. In 2026, he achieved his breakthrough hit with the critically and commercially acclaimed Dear You.

Beyond feature films, he spent seven years directing Teochew—the world’s first documentary on the region’scuisine—a heartfelt visual ode to the bonds of Chinese kinship deep in their bones.
