Synopsis.The film is based on a true story of heroism displayed by iceboat athletes during the Siege of Leningrad. In November 1941 — at the onset of a devastating winter — as the blockade ring tightens around the city, a unit of young iceboaters sets out across thin, barely frozen ice. What begins as a mission to deliver ammunition turns into a rescue operation to save a group of orphans from a children's home that was never evacuated. Former rivals on the sailing circuit must now become a true team — to survive, and to give hope to everyone left behind.

About director Alexander Kott:
Alexander Kott is a Russian film director, screenwriter, and producer. He is best known for the war drama Brest Fortress, several installments of the Yolki franchise, and the television series Dark Side of the Moon and Trotsky.
In 1990, Alexander graduated from the School of Aesthetic Education at the Theatre on Krasnaya Presnya and began his career as a photographer. His works were exhibited at the Gallery on Pirogovka, the GITIS Museum, and the Academy of Culture.
In 1994, he enrolled at VGIK (the Russian State University of Cinematography) in the feature film directing workshop led by Vladimir Khotinenko. In 1997, he successfully completed a master class with Andrzej Wajda in Kraków. During the same period, he directed the experimental single-shot film Journey on commission from the French television channel ARTE.
While still a student, Kott directed the short films The Rope, The Photographer, and The Scarecrow. The Photographer was screened at more than thirty international film festivals.
Following his graduation from VGIK in 2000, Alexander made his feature film debut with Two Drivers (2001). To date, his filmography comprises more than 50 works, including the feature films Chuk and Gek. The Grand Adventure and GOGOL-MOGOL, as well as the television series The Seventh Symphony, The Fortress, The Debtor's Hut, A Hero of Our Time, and Pavel. The First and the Last.
Alexander Kott combines filmmaking with academic and pedagogical work. He holds the rank of Professor and heads a directing workshop at the Department of Feature Film Directing at VGIK. He is also a member of the Russian Union of Cinematographers.
