Galil Film Festival: Focus on Kyrgyzstan

About the festival:
The Galil Film Festival is clebrating its second edition this year. In 2024, the festival was held for the first time during Hanukkah, and the large audiences who attended symbolized the return of residents and cultural activity to the Galilee following a period of intense conflict. The Festival screens films supported by the Galil Film Fund, alongside cinematic works from Israel and around the wolrd.
This year, 2025, the festival is dedicating a special program to films from Central Asia, with a focus on Kyrgyzstan. In this context, we are pleased to invite the aforementioned guests, whose details appear below.
About the Galil Film Fund:
The Galil Film Fund is the organization behind the festival. It was established in 2019, emerging from the DocuVillage organization. The Fund is recognized by the Israel Film Council and is dedicated to developing and supporting the community of filmmakers in the Galilee - across all ethnicities and religions - while highlighting timely social issues, as well as environmental and historical films.

About the guests:
Ms. Gulbara Tolomushova is a film-critic, film-historian in Kyrgyzstan. Ms. Tolomushova is a member of FIPRESCI, alongside other organization.
At the Galil Film Festival, Gulbara Tolomushova delivered a lecture on Kyrgyz cinema and the ways local culture is reflected in Kyrgyz films. i
Mr. Talant Akynbekov is an acclaimed cinematographer. Since 1980s. he has specialized in cinematography, beginning his career as an assistant cameraman and assistant director, later advancing to roles as a cinematographer and director of photography across a wide range of subjects and genres - from commercials and educational films to documentaries and full-lenth narrative futures. Mr. Akynbekov conducted a masterclass on cinematography.
