From 11-14 May 2023, the V Kinoforum of Female Directors was held in the city of Osh, to great success; it was devoted to the 90th anniversary of the documentary filmmaker Lilya Turusbekova.
The film forum was organized by the Public Fund ‘Creative Women of Asia’ and headed by director Asel Zhuraeva. The forum received support from the Swiss Government and the Film Department at the Ministry of Culture, Information, Sports and Youth Policy of the Kyrgyz Republic.
Five uncommon female images were presented in the films of the Kinoforum.
In Mother (Apa), it was the image of a fragile, but strong woman, a working mother with numerous children, the youngest a baby.
Nearby, but Far Away (Ryadom, no daleko) deals with a girl who is pregnant from a rape; she hates the child, who is not to blame.
In Midwife (Kindik ene), a girl wants to become a mother, give birth to a child, even if the father of future child is against it. As she betrays her beloved, she feels a spiritual bond with Umai Ene, the patroness of pregnant women. She is saved through her rich artistic imagination that allows her to see the world differently.
Bride Stone(Kelin Tash) creates the image of a woman’s protest: she does not accept the proposal of her father-in-law to become her husband. She is a mother and faithful wife, but her husband betrayed her.
