На 18 МКФ в Дакке доминировал Иран

На 18-м Международном кинофестивале в Дакке доминировал Иран: кинематографисты этой страны получили семь наград из двадцати одной, включая номинации "За лучший фильм" и "За лучшего режиссера".

 

 

Iran dominates: 18th Dhaka International Film Festival

The 18th edition of the Dhaka International Film Festival was dominated by Iran as the country won seven out of 21 awards, including the best film and the best director.

 

The Iranian film Ghasr e- Shirin (Castle Of Dreams), a road film featuring a reluctant father with two children, got the best film award in the Asian Film Competition section, the main competition section of the festival and won prize money of Tk 100,000 ($1219.51) and a crest.

 

The film, that won the best screenplay and music prizes at Iran’s national awards, had earlier participated in several other festivals such as Shanghai International Film Festival.

 

Director of the film Mirkarimi Reza got the award in the best director category of the segment.

 

The best actress award in the section went jointly to three Iranian -- Arezoo Ariapoor, Fereshta Afshar and Hasiba Ebrahimi— for the film Hava, Maryam, Ayesha, a joint venture of Iran, Afghanistan and France.

 

Only Thop Nazareno, a Filipino actor, was exceptional and managed to get the best actor’s award for his performance in Edward in the Asian Film Competition section among so many Iranians.

 

Another Iranian filmmaker Yaser Talebi’s film Beloved won the best documentary film award in the spiritual film section.

 

 

Still, the oraganiser of the festival, Rainbow Film Society, gave two special mention awards to two Iranian films and also the non-competitive Best Children Film Badal Rahman Award to another Iranian film.

 

Once again the Iranian filmmaker Mohammadreza Haji Gholami got the Best Children Film Badal Rahman Award for his film Loknat (Stammer). Mohammadreza, who served as a jurist in another competitive section in the 18th edition of the festival, was awarded by the organisers in the same category in the previous two editions. 

 

DIFF gave the honorary special mentionto Saeed Zamanian’s film The Feast of the Goat in Short Fiction Category of the Spiritual Film Section and to Patio, directed by Maryam Bahrololumi, in Feature Film Category of the Women Filmmakers Section.

 

However, it is to be mentioned that the 18th Dhaka International Film Festival featured 220 films from 74 countries in the festival that continued from January 11 to 19 simultaneously at the seven venues in Bangladesh’s capital Dhaka.

 

Total of 96 foreign delegates participated in the festival as enthusiasts, promoters, jury members and participants of different ancillary events such as the West Meets the East and the Conference on Women in Cinema.

 

In the West Meets the East session, local aspiring filmmakers shared challenges they face for collecting funds, distributions of their films and participating at international festivals while delegates gave them the possible solutions.

 

Conference on Women in Cinema is a well-appreciated event of the Dhaka International Film Festival. The objective of the two-day conference was to improve the standard and content of women-based cinema and also to create an interaction among the women who are involved in the medium of cinema through exchanging ideas and sharing diverse experiences.

 

The conference set the goal of participation of the women behind the camera in the Asian region beat least 30 per cent soon. It was the sixth arrangement of such conference as part of the festival.

 

Another mentionable entry of the festival was a retrospective featuring four films by the Polish filmmakers Joanna Kos-Krauze and Krzsztof Kauze.

 

Eighteen films, mostly from Iran and India, participated in the main Asian Film Competition section. But, compared to the entries of the previous editions, the quality of the films screened in the 18th edition appeared a bit of average standards, some viewers said.

 

The worst showcase of the festival was definitely the Bangladesh Panorama that screened seven substandard films, including five feature films and two documentaries. When the panorama gives a demonstration of the local film industry to the global audience in the festival, more attentions require for ensuring participation of the best films produced in the country in the past one year.

 

The limited number of viewers who attended the festival said that they could watch some quality films with diverse themes in the Cinema of the World and the Short and Independent sections. The festival also had Women Filmmaker Section, Spiritual Film Section and Children Film Section.

 

With the general theme ‘Better Film, Better Audience and Better Society’, Rainbow Film Society has been organising the Dhaka International Film

 

Festival since 1992. Initially it was a biennale, but since it started getting the government financial support from 2016, the festival is oragnised annually now.

 

Both the Rainbow Film Society and Bangladesh government promise to present even a better festival in January 2021.
